I Know My Name
by Frank Critelli
I'm gonna go for a ride in the car! We may not go far - just around town. Maybe we'll go for a walk in the park before it gets dark, before we go home.
Somebody's calling my name! I know my name!
I'll take the lead because I know the way. We came yesterday! This is my place! Sometimes I move slow, sometimes I move fast - the breeze blowing past. I'm running away!
Somebody's calling my name! I know my name!
And I come alive out for a drive!
There's nothing better than being together outside!
Sometimes he yells when I do something bad...but he's still my man, and I'm still his friend! Maybe later on we'll watch some tv - he'll still next to me and scratch my head!
Somebody's calling my name! I know my name!

Change Your Mind
by Frank Critelli
Do you transcend? Do you condescend? Do you understand my meaning?
Have you seen? Are you so pristine? Have you ever had this feeling?
It's okay to walk the line between rebellious and refined.
You can always change your mind.
All you see, and all you don't see is a product of your thinking. The time has come to come undone, and climb high instead of sinking.
It's okay to walk the line between rebellious and refined.
You will know your truth in time.

Zen Again
by Frank Critelli
Block off your senses. Settle your dust. Stop the pretenses. What's all the fuss? Stick to the center. Breathe in and out. Keep it together. No need to freak out.
You won't break if you can bend. It all comes down to Zen again.
Lose your illusions. Open your soul. Avoid this confusion. Return to the fold. There's no revolution. There's no marching feet. But it's the solution: keeping it sweet.
You won't break if you can bend. It all comes down to Zen again.

Ask Anyone
by Frank Critelli
I went outside this morning, out by the hollow tree...the one way out in back, the one still sprouting leaves. Nobody's ever climbed it, and the birds just let it be. And I said to myself, "Ain't that just like me."
My mind is so heavy, my legs can't stand the strain. Got troubles all around me, nobody left to blame. No progeny, no history - I'm a man without a name. Go away, Pretty Darlin', I'll only bring you pain.
Ask anyone: it ain't no fun being me.
They gave me their religion, and it didn't seem to stick. I tried my luck at love - I never got the trick of it. Everything I built sooner or later turned to shit. I couldn't catch an honest break no matter what I did. So I decided I would travel to see what I could find...never thinking twice 'bout what I left behind. I hit the open highway, and followed the sunrise - but all I got were rainclouds, forsaken by the skies.
Ask anyone: it ain't no fun being me.
And so now the lesson's learned, but still it ain't no use. There's nothing I can say - no acceptable excuse. I can't give you reasons for the things that I did choose. Don't bet on my salvation - you'd be sure to lose.
Ask anyone: it ain't no fun being me.
But I'm sorry for my sings and for leaving you alone. I never meant to hurt you, I'm just mean down in my bones. Now the table's turned and reapin' what I've sown - and I need you, Pretty Baby, but I know I can't come home.
Ask anyone: it ain't no fun being me.

The Simple Truth
by Frank Critelli
.
You don't like me when I'm serious, and I don't like you when you're sad. And I don't like it when you pick on me, and you don't like when I get mad.
We may both be inconsiderate. We might dwell upon the negative. But you love me, and Darlin', I love you. That sounds simple, but it's true.
I wish we didn't have to work so we could travel 'round the world. Trade this life that we've been living in, and go sell tee shirts in the Caribbean.
And if you want to get away, I would leave with you today. There is nothing that I'd rather do. And that sounds simple, but it's true.
It's not necessarily poetry...but the simple truth comes on much more easily. It's no symphony I'm working on, but maybe this could be you're new favorite song.
And if it's all the same to you, I'll tell you what I'm going to do: I will always do my best for you. That's sounds simple because it's true.

Constantly Changing
by Frank Critelli
I don't know the reasons why, but you just came into my mind. I haven't thought about you in a long, long while. These recollected memories cause me to ponder so many things. So many things about you still make me smile.
Remember when we laughed and sang, and held each other in the rain? And pinky-swore forever, we'd always be. Time has passed, and things have changed since those days when we were friends - but today I held you once again in my memory.
Was that "me," or is this the real me? Every day before today seems like a dream. Everything is everything, it seems. And now here we are...constantly changing.
Sometimes life feels tragic. People come and go like magic. But I remember you. Do you remember me?
We all know the past was once the present, and a part of us...and that water underneath abridge has got to flow. It's nice to visit now and then, but we could never live there again. I hope all's well with you, my friend, but it's time to go.
Because that Was me, but now this Is me. Every day before today feels like a dream. Everything is everything, it seems. And we'll always be constantly changing.

5000 Miles
by Frank Critelli
She likes to ride shotgun with her toes up on the dash, one arm out the window, and the iPad on her lap. And I'll look at her, and she'll look at me, and we'll both begin to smile. And it's been that way since yesterday and 700 miles.
I prefer the driver's seat with both hands on the wheel, soaking up the scenery, and getting to what's real. And she'll look at me, and I'll look at her, and we'll both begin to smile. And it's been that way since yesterday and 1300 miles.
As we go driving and chasing the horizon, what we're finding challenges our reason. We might be learning something, but it's hard to tell...we're still searching for God, each other, and ourselves.
So we paid the toll and crossed the border, then nothing seemed the same. Physically we may return, but spiritually we've changed. So look at us, we're looking at you, and there's nothing to do but smile. And it's been that way since yesterday, and 3500 miles.
As we go driving and chasing the horizon, what we're finding challenges our reason. We might be learning something, but it's hard to tell...we're still searching for God, each other, and ourselves.
From the sunrise to the sunset, from the end back to the start...we circle toward to destination closer to the heart. Eyes up ahead, feet on the ground, each experience on file. And we'll remember every day for 5000 miles.
As we go driving and chasing the horizon, what we're finding challenges our reason. We must be learning something, but it's hard to tell...we're still searching for God, each other, and ourselves.

Thanks for Your Understanding
by Frank Critelli
Rise up from the earth - you're a worm, you're a whale!
You can do anything you like!
Fly up to the sky - you're a scream, you're a dream!
You can do anything you like!
You can do exactly what they tell you to, or you can do exactly as you choose. And you can count on me to do those things that make me so happy. Thanks for your understanding.
Free - floating around like a breeze, like a sound!
You can be anything you like!
Come see all you can be, A to Z, come and see!
You can be anything you like!
You can be like no one that you've ever met, or you can be like everybody else. And you can count on me to be exactly who I'm supposed to be. Thanks for your understanding.

For Cryin' Out Loud
by Frank Critelli
What if you found out none of it was true, the joke was all on you.
Would you scream and shout and pull your hair out by the roots?
Or would you take it out on the next man that you meet
walking down the street? Would you stamp him with both feet
so cruel and proud? Would you strike him down?
For cryin' out loud!
What if you found out they all worked in cahoots to play you like a fool?
Would you shrug it off or demand to know the truth?
Or would you set your anger loose?
What if you woke up and it was all a dream and nothing's what it seemed? What if all the veils fell down and the universe came clean about what this life really means? And when you opened up your eyes, imagine your surprise when you finally realize that love abounds. You'd look around and laugh out loud!
