Frank Critelli's Dream (#1-3)
words and music by Frank Critelli
I dreamed I saw St. Joseph. He was loading up a van, with blisters on his hands - an ever strong and ever gentle family man. And then I saw the Virgin Mary. She was driving in a car, returning from the grocery store - so beautiful, maternal, and adorable. And I dreamed I was there when their eyes met - it was love at second guess. And I could see that they could see they were blessed.
I dreamed I was friends with Da Vinci. We sat in my backyard. He beat me every time at cards. We talked of love and death and God and stars. Then along came Albert Einstein, and we got drunk on Chardonnay. They talked all night and the next day, and I listened but didn't dare to say - that I dreamed I was there when their minds met, and sparked with a shared understanding that birth and death are accidents - life is random.
I dreamed I was singing a tune under a strawberry moon, but the word came out all wrong and no one liked the songs I'd written and practiced for so long. And then we all drove home - each of us alone. And we thought about our words, and what we saw, and what we heard, and realized a miracle occurred: that we were there together - all in the same room. For better or worse, that connects us in the universe.

The Difference
words and music by Frank Critelli
I'm alright - thanks for asking.
Later tonight, I'll see you at the bar.
The bands starts at eight
but I'll be early just in case
at the table under James
because everything's different
but it's all the same.
They told me to dance
but I couldn't fake it
so I took my chances
and set out on my own
and sometimes it great
sometimes it feels like a mistake
but I know that it's too late
because everything's different
but it's all the same.
Because I've got no one to talk to
Nobody understands
that life is much different
than it's ever been
but it's essence is the same
the same as it always is.
So I'm alright
and you can stop asking
let's keep it light
and talk about our days
because that' all we have
that's all we've ever had
that's all we're ever gonna have
so let's make it different
let's make a difference.

So Did I!

Sometimes I think about life and death, but not because I'm worried about drawing my last breath...just wondering about logistics, and getting from here to there. Will I rent the basement apartment, or own the penthouse in the air?
What do you think about before you say goodnight?
What do you dream about while you're sleeping tight?
What are your assessments of your life so far?
Do you feel fulfilled or are you wishing on the stars?
Sometimes I think about the day I was born, and sometimes I think about the days when I'll be tired and worn. Sometimes I wonder what it's like to be someone else. Sometimes I wonder if I'll ever truly know myself.
What do you think about when you wake up to the sun?
What do you dream about when your day is done?
What did you want to be when you were six years old?
Did you think you'd be different when you grew old?
Did you ever dream that you could fly? So did I!
Sometimes I think, and sometimes I dream. But life might be different than what it sometimes seems. Sometimes I question, and sometimes I doubt. Sometimes I think I've got it all figured out.
Did you think you'd never die? So did I!
